White Lotus
“I was about three by the time I found out about Mind’s Eyes and it was my Grandmother who told me stories about them. She said that our mind is the most fascinating creation of Mother Nature and there is no match to it. She also told me that if we learn how to use it wisely, there will be miracles. Bearing that in mind, I went to my first school Life Light Junior School. There I did well enough to earn a scholarship for a good High School. Then, there was this school which was very famous for sharp minds. Every parent wanted to see their child inside those walls. It was called the White Lotus. Every year, it took only a handful of students from everywhere. I was one of the lucky students to earn a scholarship to it.
It was a very fine day on January when I first step into White Lotus. We were given a white lotus and escorted to the Assembly Arena to meet the Headmistress and the teachers. Our Headmistress was Cassandra Cleanor. She was a charming lady with a great personality. I was seated next to a little girl with curly brown hair and very white teeth. Her name was Cher. I started to introduce myself “Hi Cher I’m…” but she suddenly said, “Hello Ishnoya.” Startled by her I asked, “ Er… How… How did you know my name? I didn’t tell anyone.”
Cher was still smiling at me when she said, “It seems you have lot to learn yet. Mean while consider me as an extremely gifted friend.” I had to admit that was not normal but since Ms. Cleanor started her speech we did not dare to speak more.
“It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the White Lotus. This year as it has been for many years we have witnessed many pure talents from all around the country. We sincerely believe that it is our duty at White Lotus to sharpen those talents and let you see the world in a different angle.
There is an ancient saying that says “Great are the minds that are well disciplined” and we here at the White Lotus expect nothing less than that. You will learn how to discipline yourselves as youngsters from inside as well as outside. Many of you present here today may be unaware of what I meant actually. Our mind is the main device that controls our body, our activities and basically everything we do. But we as humans do not use it for proper activities but merely scrape the surface. You have been awarded scholarships because your minds have proved to be sharper than others of your age. In other words that you have genes of what we call Mind’s Eyes. (Gasping all over the Arena) Yes, yes I know it seems very untrue to believe because you have heard of them only as stories but I suppose I do not need any explanation to do if I can simply show you.
Ms. Cleanor asked the tall girl near the entrance to come near her. She then closed her eyes and raised her hands up gradually. Nothing unusual happened though. Then Ms. Cleanor asked us to look beneath our feet. Several girls screamed. There was no floor beneath the feet but a deep hell. “Don’t panic girls this is only an optical illusion. (Pointing to the tall girl) Millie’s a well trained Mind’s Eye who can perform physical optical illusions. Thank you Millie.”
Ms. Cleanor continued with a smile. “As you saw, you have raw abilities. We will help you to train them by the discipline of your mind. You will be given a tour around the school by your class prefects tomorrow. That will suffice for today then. Have a good day!"
