Missing Piece........

I thought I saw
I smelled the sweetness of
your kind face
and your beloved voice...
Everyday I rise
with the thought
of your touch and
your smile
your words and
your time...
Life is empty
I felt so
Life is nothing
I knew so
Your presence is what makes
me who I am
never ever leave
me for this...
the suffering
I cannot live through........

Well if so, this is not exactly a good sign about body. It could be just too much work but at the same time it could be a warning of the things that is going on inside your body.

Thyroid problems are more common among women than men. Scientists guess that this is due to genes or may be hormones. However to find the cause for your extreme tiredness and drowsiness you have to face a blood test under medical advise.

Hunger.........

Have you ever given a thought about the food you eat?? Well of course you might have because now a days we are all very much concern about our body shape and diseases like Cholesterol and Diabetes. But have you ever really considered that we are actually fortunate enough that we get more than enough of food while there are people among us suffering from lack of proper food and nutrition. Just like many problems we are facing today, world hunger is another rising problem. But this is less global than other problems because many of the developed countries and some of the developing countries do not even have such a problem. But that does not make us forget the less fortunate people who are suffering from lack of food right now.

Falling.....

Life is a fallen leaf
swaying in the rhythm of wind...
dancing with fellows and foes
and drooping
when it's time
Enchanting
sometimes it is
how hard the wind is blown
some shall never touch ground
but keep swaying
and flattering and dancing
like petals softer
and pollens' laughter...
But at the end
someway or another
every leaf that left the tree
shall come down to earth
like certain death
we all wait upon........

I Can't Breathe!!!!!!!!!

At least 50% of us have faced this situation at some point of our lives. Generally this is known as the shortness of breath and this can be a result of several causes. Shortness of breath is mainly due to lung diseases or cardiac problems. As I told you earlier, many of us have faced this problem at some point of our lives and sometimes this is just temporary so that we don't have to panic. But if this symptom prevails for a longer period of time and slow s down your daily activities, then you should definitely seek medical advice.
If shortness of breath is due to a lung problem the following symptoms may occur at several situations.
  • Allergens- Breathing contaminated air with allergy causing agents.
  • Shortness of breath with deep cough and yellowish phlegm
  • Shortness of breath with fever, cold and cough

Handles..... Little Somethings For Home.... Part 5

Handles are very very important when it comes to selecting what type of a door or drawer set you want. There are many type of door knobs, handles and pulls ranging from ancient to modern high tech looking fashionable ones. A handle or finger grip is often formed as an integral part of door or drawer. However, there are numerous ready made fittings to choose from. Although they are essentially functional pieces of hardware, handles can enhance or spoil the appearance of storage furniture, so select them carefully to suit the style and scale of the work piece.

Serendib In Style.....

We all like different food flavours don't we??? Among them are the different cuisines you get to enjoy in different countries. Today we thought of adding a bit of spicy and flavorful recipes in the style of Serendib aka Sri Lanka. I must say, Sri Lankan food can be extremely spicy. The main ingredients to tickle your taste buds would be Cinnamon, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Pepper, Chili, Clove etc. These in combine or as individuals are used in Sri Lankan cuisines and that is what makes they taste better more than many other food.

It's Too Late To Apologize........

I feel a little guilty
for things I did in my past,
I feel embarrassed
for things I said at last,
I feel I did very wrong...
no turning back though,
no returning thoughts.....
I left you wounded
weak and crying....
but I did not want to
for my devil inside
it's never the same like a shattered glass,
I broke your heart within me
killing myself half apart,
I know it is late,
too late to apologize....
but still
I'm sorry........

Clutch Purses........

A classic clutch that coordinates with a garment completes an outfit. The flap can be shaped and embellished in a number of ways, making the design possibilities for this purse unlimited. Make a variety of pins to change the look of one basic clutch. Or for an elegant one of a kind look, embellish the flap with punch needle embroidery, creating a plush, raised design on woven fabric.

The lined purse is constructed with a zipped divider. A coat snap provides a simple closure. If desired, a shoulder strap can be attached. Choose a medium weight to heavy weight outer fabric; decorator fabrics have good body and are treated to repel soil. For added support, interface the outer and lining fabrics. Choose a crisp sew-in interfacing for the outer fabric and an all purpose fusible interfacing for the lining.

Lipids... Food Facts 4

This is going to be the final chapter of food facts. Today, we are going to focus on lipids. Many of us are familiar with the term lipids as fat or oils. Yes, lipids can be divided into two groups as fats and oils. The difference in here is the amount of saturation of the molecule. A lipid molecule is basically formed when 3 fatty acid molecules combine with a glycerol molecule forming an ester bond. And all lipids have one feature in common, that is they hate water which means in other words, they are mostly hydrophobic. Other than fats and oils, there are other types of lipids such as steroids, waxes, phospholipids etc. If we talk about the functions of lipids inside our body, lipid acts as storage energy just like carbohydrates. Lipids can release more energy though.

Water Crisis........

"There is a water crisis today. But the crisis is not about having too little water to satisfy our needs. It is a crisis of managing water so badly that billions of people - and the environment - suffer badly."
World Water Vision Report

What do you think about water???? This is a simple question even the kids of five can answer. But if you think deep you will find an answer that will almost knock you off from your feet. Water is considered as a renewable source but today we can hardly say so. Water is one of the few essential factors all living things need. Therefore it is a vital factor determining the life on earth. Although most of our planet's surface is covered by oceans, only 1% is available as potable water which we can use. Very recently our world population passed the 7 billion milestone. Will all this 7 billion people have enough drinking water???

Apart from drinking purposes water has many other major purposes. We use water to clean ourselves, wash all most everything we use and not only that, many industries use water as raw material. And most of the time, waste and industrial effluents are released as dissolved substances in water. Water is like some sort of a currency, the difference is that we know the value of money but not that of water.

Into The Lion's Rock......

What do you know about Lion's rock???? Or you might have heard about Sigiriya, in Sri Lanka??? Well, Sigiriya is the Lion's rock, built by King Kashyapa round 5th century BC. It is a place you must pay a visit because believe me, once you go there you won't be disappointed. Situated in the Mathale district, Sri Lanka (If you are visiting Sigiriya from another country, there are tour packs right at the air port) Sigiriya stands as an isolated rock with a height of 370m. Sigiriya is also known as the 8th wonder of the world officially declared by the UNESCO and one of the eight world heritage sites of the world in Sri Lanka.
Prince Kashyapa seized the throne from his father King Dathusena and fled in fear of his brother Mugalan; the rightful heir to the throne. He fled to Sigiriya and built this rock castle and prepared for the battle coming ahead. What amazes us is the plan and irrigation used here because King Kashyapa had used an advanced technology to get water through the rock in 5th century BC. He built 3 moats around the rock preventing enemy invasions.

You & Your Body.....

A woman's role in a family is something beyond our description. She is the back bone of the family. No matter western or eastern, woman holds major part of the responsibility of raising children, household chores and good family bonding. But today's busy life styles have affected many of our women making them forget about their health.
If you look up at researches done in calculating reasons for annual death toll of most of the countries, the main reason is non infectious diseases so as to tell diseases like Diabetes, Cholesterol, Blood Pressure etc. But what to say, the mistakes behind all these illnesses are our unhealthy food patterns. Due to extremely busy lives we've been adapted ourselves to depend on fast food. Fast food is defined as food items that lack the necessary level of nutrients and food that contain harmful amounts of chemicals, preservatives and additives. And also many of them are extra oily and sugar containing food. As we get an unbalanced diet from these fast food, they lack necessary amounts of nutrients. And as we don't get enough nutrients our anabolic and catabolic activities get unbalanced too.

Proteins..... Food Facts-3

Just like Carbohydrates and Vitamins plus minerals, Protein is another essential nutrient. Protein builds up, maintains, and replaces the tissues in your body. Your muscles, your organs, and your immune system are made up mostly of protein. Protein has multi functions, there are transport proteins, anti bodies, structural proteins, snake venom etc. Your body uses the protein you eat to make lots of specialized protein molecules that have specific jobs.

What are Proteins????

Proteins are polymer chains made of amino acids bonded by peptide bonds. There are mainlt 4 structures of proteins as primary structure, secondary structure, tertiary structure and quaternary structure. Primary structure is a single chain of amino acids, secondary structure is two chains of amino acid chains twisted together forming shapes like alpha helix or beta pleat.Tertiary contains 3 amino acid chains and quaternary structure has 4 amino acid chains.
Amino acids can be divided into either essential amino acids or non-essential amino acids. The essential amino acids, which must be obtained from food sources, are leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, threonine, tryptophan, methionine, phenylalanine and histidine. On the other hand, non-essential amino acids can be made by the body from other amino acids. The non-essential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine.

Everyday Saucy Sauces.....

To add a bit flavour to our food we use different kinds of sauces. Apart from everyday tomato sauce or ketch up, there are many other sauces we ought to know and they are easy to make at home too. There are typically 5 mother sauces in culinary art. They are white sauce Béchamel, the light stock-based Velouté, the brown stock-based Espagnole; the two basic emulsified sauces, Hollandaise and Mayonnaise; and the oil and vinegar-based Vinaigrette. Always remember that when a sauce is used on a food, it is the first thing to touch the tongue. A sauce is only as good as the ingredients you put into it and the care you take while preparing it. On the other hand, a good sauce does little to make inferior food taste better. Always put a good sauce on good food. Thankfully, we no longer use sauce to mask "off-tasting food" as was once the practice in times before modern refrigeration!
Sauces can be also divided as spicy sauces and sweet sauces. Soy sauce, fish sauce and oyster sauce are usually used in Chinese and Thai cuisines. Tomato sauce is basically for Italian. Other than these there are chocolate sauces, different kinds of fruit based sauces. So here are some of the sauce recipes we found.

Drawstring Evening Bags......

It is always handy to have a beautiful pouch for special occasions. Twisted cording and decorative bead add a finishing touch to the bag. Medium weight fabrics that drape well such as velvet and velveteen work well. Other suitable fabrics include brocade, satin, and some tapestries. Lightweight fabrics may also be used; to add body and support, underline a lightweight fabric with batiste or fuse a lightweight knit interfacing to the fabric.

For making a drawstring evening bag, you will need:

0.35m outer fabric
0.35m lining fabric
2.4m decorative cording for trim and drawstrings
1.4m decorative cording for shoulder strap
Plastic canvas
End caps
Decorative bead and headpin, sequins

Curtain Designs.. Little Somethings For Home Part 4

Among many things that add up life to your living space, a simple thing like curtains hold a major role. Curtains can nullify the total effect of a mystified room or just add a bit dramatic effect to a colourful room. And also apart from the colours you intend to use on them, their patterns and prints also matter.
Firstly in choosing a curtain design, consider the place of the house such as whether it is living room, tv room or bedroom etc. If we think of bed room, go for a colour matching with the wall paint and as well as the bed sheet colour. If it is a room fully painted in white, you can always select the option for more brighter coloured curtains which will add up a ripple of colours to your bed room. A living room is the place we get to spend time, meet outsiders so it's nothing wrong with a bit of show off in there. You can always choose something simple but attractive. What is the point of a curtain if it not eye catching???? For bathrooms and kitchens, go for lighter shades to blend in with the walls so that there is not much of a difference.

Salty Sea Servings........ Seafood Recipes

It's seafood time. Seafood is the common name given basically for fish, cuttlefish, crab, shrimps, prawns, lobsters, mussels, oysters, octopus and etc. Seafood when cooked has a different flavour from meat but at the same time could be used as a substitute for people who doesn't want to eat meat. There are many advantages of eating seafood. Like for example omega 3 is present in fish and we can get enough Calcium from fish especially small fish with bones. And then different mineral salts like Sodium, Potassium and Magnesium could be obtained with seafood. There is less fat than meat and much healthier.
Here are some of the recipes for seafood that you may wanna try out..... Believe me, they are all very delicious.

Simply Superb Saris.......

Sari is a typical word among the types of  women's clothing you could find in many Asian countries especially like India, Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries. A sari is usually a 6 yard long piece of cloth that could be draped in different styles. A sari symbolizes a woman's status in her culture.
It is a woman's nature to add beauty to her already beautiful looks and a sari is something that simply multiply her natural beauty. Unlike most dresses, a sari improves her inner beauty making others who see her, respect her, admire her beauty. Sari is a very charming and a unique dress. A sari is worn in such a way that a woman's natural curves and shape are exposed enhancing her feminism. The typical Indian woman, covered from head to presents a picture of modesty. The word Sari is anglicized from 'Sadi', which existed in Prakrit language As Sadia and originated from Sanskrit 'Sati' meaning a strip of clot. Sati, occurs in the 'Mahabharata' and perhaps earlier, but the nature of this garment in those times and how it was worn, is difficult to gauge accurately. It is certain that the art was highly cultivated. There are innumerable references in ancient Indian literature to the draped garment and its style.

Global Warming......

Global warming has been a problem ever since we were kids. But the real problem is it never had real solutions or the solutions scientist came up with were not co operated by the whole planet. Green House effect is another name that is linked with the Global Warming issue. In fact, as a result of Green House effect, Global warming takes place. Out atmosphere is what that makes planet earth suitable for life. It including the Ozone layer, acts as a barrier for the harmful radiation by sun only letting in certain amount of radiation. Such radiation is reflected by the earth’s surface but gases like Carbon Dioxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Methane trap some of these reflected radiation and helps the earth to stabilize its temperature around 15- 30 degree Celsius. This is the same effect we experience in green houses used for cultivation purposes.
But if the atmosphere contains these Green House gases more than the % they should be, the Green House effect increases which means earth gets more and more heated up. This is bad because, the ice layers in the South and North Poles melt adding millions of gallons of water to the ocean.  It results in rise in ocean level sinking many islands around the world. Even as we talk on, this happens but it is measurably tiny and negligible. However recent years’ studies and researches have shown increase in this activity which is not negligible any more.

Carbohydrates.... Food Facts-2

Carbohydrates are essential for our day today activities. They play the main role in providing the necessary amount of energy to carry out our activities without exhaustion. Complex carbohydrates include legumes, grains and starchy vegetables, such as potatoes, peas and corn. Simple carbohydrates are found mainly in fruits and milk, as well as in foods made with sugar, such as candy and other sweets. It is important to get 45 percent to 65 percent of your daily calories from carbohydrate foods. Emphasize complex carbohydrate foods in your diet, especially from whole grains and beans, and nutrient-rich fruits and milk. Limit sugars from candy and other sweets.
Simple carbohydrates get digested in a short time, but glucose is released into the blood stream quickly. Thus, the post prandial blood glucose levels tend to suddenly spike. These carbohydrates have a high glycemic index. Insulin which is required to remove this glucose from the blood is unable to deal with this sudden surge, especially in diabetics, so glucose remains in the blood, causing hyperglycemia. These simple carbohydrates also lead to food cravings , higher food consumption and ultimately weight gain. Simple carbohydrates are thus considered to be “bad carbohydrates”.

When complex carbohydrates are eaten, the body takes longer to digest them, so glucose is released slowly and steadily into the blood stream. Insulin is able to deal with this slow rate of release much more effectively. These are carbohydrates with a low glycemic index and lead to better glycemic control. They have good satiety value and make the person feel fuller for a longer period of time and lead to less overeating. They make an excellent choice for weight watchers. They are considered to be “good carbohydrates”.
Here is a table of Carbohydrates and foods with the amount of fiber in each.

Real Heroes............

Sports are valuable additions to one’s life in terms of learning self discipline and facing problems. Sports give us stability not only by means of our physical health but also by means of mental health. Usually school rivals are common mainly due to some kind of a sport but at the same time it’s good to hear that there are gentlemen among us who knows the real value of sports. Among them are two prep rowers from Philadelphia.

As reported by the Philadelphia Daily News, James Konopka and Nick Mead who are from Episcopal Academy gave up their game just to save two fellow competitors who had capsized. They all were competing in under 17 doubles race at the Head of the Schuykill regatta when the incident took place on Sunday.

St. Joseph's Prep rowers Joe Leonard and Andrew Burrichter were having particularly a hard time with struggling with their boat and treading water in the icy river, Konopka and Mead made the decision to give up their start that could have easily made them win. Instead they helped the fellow high school rowers to get to safety, waiting with them until a safety launch arrived to get the St. Joseph's pair out of the frigid water.

Button Jewelry...Creating Fashion... Just the way you want!!! Part 4

Button Jewelry is fast and easy to make. Jewelry findings can be attached to buttons to make earrings, pins, tie tacks and stick pins. Use button pins to adorn garments, embellish purses and belts, and hold scarves in place. Button jewelry can be made inexpensively using extra buttons from sewing projects. Or showcase unusual or antique buttons by turning them into one of a kind jewelry pieces.

Old buttons offer unusual details and craftsmanship; combining one or two with new buttons can make jewelry pieces unique. Look for old buttons at flea markets, antique shops and thrift shops. When designing button jewelry, include buttons that vary in color, or texture using special buttons as focal point. Keep earrings and pins light in weight if you intend to use them on light weight fabrics. Design the button jewelry so the finished piece has a flat base to which you can secure the jewelry findings.

Button jewelry can be assembled using hot glue or jewelry glue. Buttons can be glued together, using larger buttons to form the foundation. Or glue the buttons to a decorative base such as a shell or a decorative belt buckle.

You will need:
Variety of buttons
Jewelry findings such as pin back, earring backs or stick pin
Hot glue gun and glue sticks or jewelry glue
