Colombo International Book Fair

What more could be better than a good book for your child??? Books have been pals with human beings for a very long time and slowly books have been now replaced by many different branches of technology. However, there are still people who love the touch of the crunchy papers and woody smell and beautifully printed books. Each year, the National Book Publishers' Association of Sri Lanka organizes the biggest book festival of Sri Lanka famously known as the Colombo International Book Fair at BMICH.
This time, it started on 18th September 2012 and will be there till 26th September 2012 from 9 a.m to 9 p.m.

What's so special about CIBF?

CMBF comprises of more than 200 stalls of books, stationery, artwork materials, science equipment etc. It also provides the only chance to get all the publishing houses, bookshops under one roof. As a compliment, all most all these stalls provide you large amounts of discounts so that you can buy many more than usual for the amount you pay. CIBF is also important because many authors await the chance to launch their published work as CIBF provides a greater opportunity to link with the readers.

Whether it's for the individual taste or for your school's public library or to donate books for the needy ones or just to get stationery for the next school year, people and children from every part of the island come to CIBF. Not only the local crowd but  even the international community visits CIBF as there are so many international books sold here. If you want to buy books cheaper with a good quality, then this is your chance. I personally await this time of the year to get as much as books from the book fair. Sometimes, school children and families visit the book fair two three times also. That is quite a happy announcement to make because it is widely seen how much people still like books.

Very often authors and critics exclaim that people have lost the grip in reading. May be there aren't lot of writers any more and obviously writers like great Martin Wickramasinghe. Even the reading party is less now a days with the busy schedules going on. But Colombo International Book Fair provides a solution for all these. It has been a centre point for all the readers, authors, sellers and even the performers like dramatists and dancers to show off their talents. No matter how far you are from Colombo, CIBF has that certain charisma to attract all ages through the love for books. It's wide range of books shows how much you have to select from. Even the books from the seventies could be found from the stalls here as some of which are specifically republished for the genuine crowd who seek those at CIBF.

It's definitely worth a visit and still you are not late. If you still didn't have the wonderful chance to submerge yourself within the books you've got until 26th September. The fair opens up at 9 a.m everyday and closes at 9 p.m. The entrance fee is only Rs.10 per head. Around 6.30 p.m. everyday is a cultural show and everyone is welcome to enjoy. Visit Colombo International Book Fair and buy a book and preserve it for the generations to come where a book might only be found at a museum if not.
