Quest Of Nostalgia... Final Chapter

“The legends they knew about the mystique horse has become true. It was standing next to Ross not letting him to touch it or ride it as if it was commanding the humans present there to avoid the battle. It was merely taking Ross’s side. The enemies were not stupid to battle against such power so they retreated back with great respect to Ross and to his villagers. After a few whiles, the beautiful black stallion went back into the forest. Ross crossed the moat and joined his villagers. He was different. He was much more capable of living up to his father’s standards. Villagers believed that the mystique horse had granted him powers. But they never knew. Ross ruled the village well and soon he became the head of several other villages nearby.
My parents as well as my friends and their parents believed this horse to be real and even today we are not allowed in the woods alone. Who knows whether it is true because there are many wild untamed horses in the forest unnaturally a large number to pack together so near humans……”

Cyndi took a while to absorb what she read. ‘It was all nonsense’ she thought. Mystique horses??? And she had no clue where this story was going. There were some pages left and she kept turning pages until she found the date Sept. 27th, 1960. And all there written was
“The path is clear, to those who peer
Search your inside and
Believe in your flames
The quest is still on….”
It sounded nothing but Cyndi could not forget the words. She went to Uncle Sam who was near the fire and gave the book to him with the confused look on her face. He signed her to sit down and he began.
“So, you read”
“Yes, but I don’t know what I was suppose to get from that. It sounded like a fairy tale” Replied Cyndi.
“Well then, do you believe in fairy tales?”
“No”

“Well, you better start believing C. Fairy tales are not just stories, they give us something to carry on, something to think about. The story you read just now is not just a story C. You know who Ross is?”
All Cyndi could do was stare at the fire. Uncle Sam carried on.
“You are a descendant of Ross’s family, C. Now don’t panic. I’m serous. See for yourself. If you go through our family history you will see. All of us are from Highlands even your great great great grandpa. Think of this house C. It was always near the forest and think of us. Can you imagine anyone of your relatives without a passion for horses??? You grandpa loved horses, your father loved horses, I love horses. So do you. You are natural. You cannot just run away from who you are. You are gifted C. And you are letting it go away.”

“But that’s not possible Uncle. Knock it off.” How can that be??? I mean there are people who actually love horses, it’s not only us.”
“Yeah C, I know. But don’t you feel different when you are with horses?? Like you belong with them?? You can understand them. This is your gift C. Your passion for animals, your passion to love them. You can feel their joy and pain. You feel it don’t you?? You father felt it too C. Why on earth otherwise he wanted you to be with horses this much??? Think of it.”

“What if I am??? It makes no difference Uncle Sam. I am what I am and I’m k with it. Dad’s gone and not even some mystique horse can bring him back” With those words Cyndi left the fire with tears trickling down her nose to her room.

She felt anger, pain and curiosity all at the same time. How can that be? She knew how much she felt about horses and sometimes she thought it was beyond normal. But seeing that her father understands animals just as she does made her fell she was just as much as passionate like her father. Cyndi was a record breaking champion at horse back riding and hurdles. Her trainer was her father. He was the best ever at horse back riding in history. It was all before his accident at the forest. Cyndi lost him forever when he took off in search of a horse that ran away from the stables. He fell of from a cliff which was hidden behind the fog. That incident shut downed Cyndi completely. She was a happy and a cheerful sporty girl with an amazing talent to ride horses and tame them. She had the kindest heart of all and she would not miss the chance to help others. But after her father’s lost, Cyndi was forced to lock herself in. She gave up horse back riding, her cheery mood, her smile and above all her passion for animals especially horses.

Cyndi left the house early that day and she came very near the entrance to the forest. She hesitated for a while and then gathered strength and went into the forest. She went in until she found the edge of the very cliff her father fell down. She could not bear to stand upon it but still she could not move from the spot. She stood there watching sun rise and the valley below slightly appreciating the sight beneath her. She slowly turned to come back and then she saw the flames……..

It was a beautiful black horse just like the one in her granddad’s book. She could not move her feet. She was so astonished that she stood looking at the horse like frozen. Slowly and steadily it came near Cyndi looking straight in her eyes. They some how look sad and tearful. Cyndi felt it like its feelings were flowing into her mind. It was sad very sad because of something. Cyndi tried to touch it. She thought it would retreat but it stayed so she took a step near it and slowly placed her hand on its face and closed her eyes. Cyndi remembered the times she used to spend with her father. She remembered the times the used to talk to each other about their favourite horses and the times the spent with horses. She began to realize how much she missed spent time with her favourites. Thinking that she was letting go all the pain inside her she was actually inviting for more by letting go of all the happy memories she had. She was letting her father’s dream, his passion. She felt what she was missing. It was like the touch of the stallion reminded her who really she was and the mistakes she was making.

Cyndi slightly opened her eyes and found her hand posed in mid air. The stallion has disappeared. She went into the forest looking for it and soon realized it was in vain. But her moment with it was not in vain. Cyndi came back home and went into the stables. She was friendly with all the horses around. Lola was among her favourite. She went straight to her and stoked her like she was hugging a best friend that she missed for a long time. Lola was so fond of Cyndi and replied the stokes with a gentle whimper into Cyndi’s ears. Cyndi placed the saddle on Lola and took her to the grounds. Uncle Sam stood watching all this with the bucket in his hand and a smile on his face near the rare end.

“The path is clear, to those who peer
Search your inside and
Believe in your flames
The quest is still on….”

Cyndi completed the verse in the old book,

“Quest of Nostalgia
Memories of love
That let your dreams live…”
