Easy Snacks..........

Everyone love snacks, especially when you are watching a film, reading a book or during the tea time. It won't be all about junk food that we are gonna tell you about but these have some nutritional value too. So today we thought of giving you some ideas of real time easy and tasty snacks and we hoe you will try them out.....



Cheese Sticks 


Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup butter
3 tablespoons ice water

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
  2. Combine all ingredients,except water, with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add water and mixing will.
  3. Form into strips with a cookie press. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet for 8 to 10 minutes. Serve warm or cold.

Makes about 28.



Goat Cheese Kisses  


Ingredients
3 tablespoons shelled pistachios, finely chopped
6 ounces creamy goat cheese
6 dried apricots or dried figs, each cut into quarters

Method

  1. Line a plate or small tray with wax paper.
  2. Place nuts in a shallow dish.
  3. Scoop a heaping 1/2 teaspoon of goat cheese and press a piece of dried apricot (or fig) into the center.
  4. Wrap the cheese around the dried fruit to form a ball.
  5. Roll the ball in the chopped nuts to create a crust; set on the plate or tray. Repeat with remaining goat cheese, dried fruit and nuts.

Makes 2 dozen (24) pieces.


Spicy Party Crisps 


Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups finely chopped nuts
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Thoroughly cream butter and cheese together. Stir in remaining ingredients, mixing well. Place dough onto plastic wrap, foil or waxed paper and roll into a 2-inch diameter log. Refrigerate for several hours.
  2. Slice into slight 1/4-inch rounds, place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 20 minutes or until edges brown. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
Parmesan-Toasted Snack Mix 

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups whole grain O-shaped cereal
1 1/2 cups toasted corn cereal
1 1/2 cups small pretzels
1 cup cheese crackers or animal crackers
2/3 cup blanched almonds
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (such as canola)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Method
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and toss to coat. Spread mixture out on a baking sheet, in an even layer.
  3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, until lightly toasted.
Makes about 6 cups.

Tofu Nuggets

Ingredients
1 (16-ounce) package extra-firm tofu, well drained 
1 large egg white 
3 tablespoons wheat germ 
2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal 
Salt and pepper to taste

Method
  1. Slice the tofu into 1/2-inch slices. Place between several towels and place a light book on top of them. Allow to sit for about 15 minutes. This will remove any excess liquid from the tofu. Remove from the towels and cut the slices into 1/2-inch cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, beat the egg whites with a fork. Add the tofu and stir gently to coat the cubes completely.
  3. In another small bowl, mix the wheat germ, cornmeal, salt, and pepper. Mix well. To the mixture, add the tofu in small batches and toss until the tofu is coated. Place the cubes onto a lightly greased baking sheet, spaced well apart.
  4. Bake at 400°F (205°C) until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes, turning the tofu over every 5 minutes or so.
  5. Serve hot with a sauce for dipping.
Makes about 24 servings.
