Creating Fashion... Just the way you want!!! Part 2

Gloves
Gloves can be fashionable accessories, not simply functional apparel. Whether you choose vivid, colorful gloves or opt for the ever popular basic colors, a few embellishments can add style. Decorative braid trims can be machine stitched in place along the upper edge of the glove. When attaching trims to knit gloves, make sure that embellished gloves retain enough stretch to be pulled on and off easily. For leather gloves, machine stitch the trim in place, using a leather needle or secure it with a glue intended for leather.

Buttons add a whimsical look to a glove. Choose buttons that will lie flat. Stitch them in place one at a time, without carrying threads between them to prevent catching the threads when putting on the gloves. This also ensures the necessary give between buttons.

Shoes
Use your creativity to embellish shoes so they coordinate with special outfits. Elegant appliques can adorn the toe areas, or rhinestones can add unexpected glitz at the heels. Many decorations are easy to add, but you may prefer to have some embellishments stitched or stapled in place by a shoe repair service.

For special occasions, use shoe clips as temporary shoe decorations. They can be made using the hook portion of large covered hooks and eyes, called coat hooks. When attaching the shoe clips to the shoes, squeeze the hooks as necessary to hold the clips in place. To temporarily secure lightweight items, such as sequined appliques, use double stick tape.

When using glue to attach embellishments select a glue that will dry clear and flexible. Avoid gluing embellishments to an area where they are apt to be rubbed off or to areas where the shoes will flex when worn. Paints can add a decorative flourish of color to shoes. When painting shoes, it is important that the paint remain flexible on the shoe. For this reason, textile paints are recommended for fabric shoes: heat set the paint with a hair dryer. Acrylic paints are recommended for leather shoes. You may want to test a small amount of the paint in an inconspicuous area because paint may not adhere to some highly waxed leathers.
