Quest Of Nostalgia... Chapter 2

When I was 6, my father told me a story that was supposed to be a legend at his time. He wanted me to believe it so badly.
Once there lived a young boy named Ross who was the son of the Head of village near the forest. There were many horses reared by the villagers. Farmers captured some from the wild and tamed them. One day Ross and his friends went into the forbidden forest and lost their way back home. Ross found out a cave hidden behind the large bushes somewhere in the middle of the forest. They went in looking for help and shelter. They spent the night there and when they woke up in the morning, they were back at the entrance to the forest. Startled by incident they returned home with shock. Ross told his father who sent searching parties into the woods and found nothing, not even the cave hidden behind the bushes. Soon the story was forgotten by the villagers but Ross kept saying that every night he seemed to have visions of colourful lights like stars and flames of fire. His father could not say this to anyone for he himself thought Ross was an idiot.

Time flew so fast that Ross was a man now. His father was a good ruler but weak. With the knowledge that Ross's father was weak and Ross was not fit enough to take over his father's duties, heads of near by villages staged war against them. Ross's father heard the news and fell sick with pain. Villagers thought Ross was not ready but he was a talented and an intelligent fellow but he was lacking faith and confidence in himself. He thought he was an idiot and a shame to the whole family. Unable to bear the whispers of his incapability behind the back, Ross ran away from home to the forest.

Then he saw the flames and lights from his childhood. It was real. It felt warm and welcoming. Ross slowly and gently turned back to see the source of the radiant glow that made him stop crying.

Ross returned home at once and talked to his father. He gathered villagers and told them that if they build a moat around the village they will have a chance to hold the enemies. Old men and women did not take his words seriously but they could not stay disobeying him. They quickly dug and filled the moat with iron grills. Ross asked villagers to get ready to fight and prepare for a battle. He gathered all the horses and men and placed them round the village. He himself was waiting for a miracle to happen in any minute now…….

The ground was shaking informing them that their enemies were near. Ross was near main entrance but he did not have a horse. He was offered several fine horses but he refused. He waited until the troops came visible to them. Then he went back and started running, gathering speed. Amazed by his action and astonished by his speed, villagers screamed for Ross who jumped over the moat. He actually jumped and the moat was at least 12 feet wide. Ross glanced at the forest. There came the flames and lights pacing gracefully towards him.

It was a beautiful black stallion with glowing flames instead of mane larger than life. It had a glare so fearful yet calming. Slowly taking all the time they had, the beautiful stallion came near Ross and stood at his side......
