I often hear my parents say that they used to read this book or that one or about gossip they used to enjoy in reading tabloids way back in the seventies and eighties. But looking back there and comparing with today, where is the average school kid swimming in the depths of the books? Nowhere. It's possible that someone could raise the questions why use books when there's plenty of other sources to find information quite easily as well as descriptively? Well, the answer is yes there's no doubt that you'll be able to find more accurate and up to date info via other sources but reading is something more.
As far as we can go into the history, evidence is given to show the evolving man with identifying many new abilities every century. Reading is one such that defines human is different from other species of animals. Slowly took place the evolution of letters, the writing art, use of paper and ink. Human thoughts were put into words is what we called the literature. Though writing, reading were mainly done to keep records and data in ancient times, latter the art of writing developed into more philosophical, literal and theatrical aspects. Records were kept written on rocks, plaques. But with weather conditions and the need to keep records safe as well as cheap methods because of the increase in demand. They found out that the leaves of trees like papyrus could be used to serve this purpose.
Reading was a popular method of learning back before the millennium. Students were given text books to study their syllabus as syllabus materials. Many novelists, poets and sci fi writers' stories as well as cartoon comics were most popular at those times. Easy to use, solid materialism as well as the prints inside were the main attraction that time. A book once read serves many other purposes too. You can preserve the contents for other generations to come. News papers, tabloids and magazines were useful methods of spreading news back then. Often they ended up substituting firewood or chained back to recycling.
But today, Most of the books have e reading facilities. If you ask a bookshop owner, he would be able to tell you that his sales keep dropping every year. That's because nowadays we don't go shopping to buy books or hard copies but with one touch, your story will be able to read through your PC. E reading is not at all bad because at least still our kids can enjoy reading stories instead of spending all the time video gaming. Only difference is that our books were tangible while theirs are not. Let's just hope that at least we'll be able to save a book for our future generations.
