Global warming has been a problem ever since we were kids. But the real problem is it never had real solutions or the solutions scientist came up with were not co operated by the whole planet. Green House effect is another name that is linked with the Global Warming issue. In fact, as a result of Green House effect, Global warming takes place. Out atmosphere is what that makes planet earth suitable for life. It including the Ozone layer, acts as a barrier for the harmful radiation by sun only letting in certain amount of radiation. Such radiation is reflected by the earth’s surface but gases like Carbon Dioxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Methane trap some of these reflected radiation and helps the earth to stabilize its temperature around 15- 30 degree Celsius. This is the same effect we experience in green houses used for cultivation purposes.
But if the atmosphere contains these Green House gases more than the % they should be, the Green House effect increases which means earth gets more and more heated up. This is bad because, the ice layers in the South and North Poles melt adding millions of gallons of water to the ocean. It results in rise in ocean level sinking many islands around the world. Even as we talk on, this happens but it is measurably tiny and negligible. However recent years’ studies and researches have shown increase in this activity which is not negligible any more.
Unfortunately we humans hold the responsibility to this crisis as the emission of these green house gases is mainly due to human activity. The global output of heat-trapping carbon dioxide jumped by the biggest amount on record, the U.S. Department of Energy calculated, a sign of how feeble the world's efforts are at slowing man-made global warming. It was reported that the new figures for 2010 mean that levels of greenhouse gases are higher than the worst case scenario outlined by climate experts just four years ago.
The world pumped about 564 million more tons (512 million metric tons) of carbon into the air in 2010 than it did in 2009. That's an increase of 6 percent. That amount of extra pollution eclipses the individual emissions of all but three countries China, the United States and India, the world's top producers of greenhouse gases.Extra pollution in China and the U.S. account for more than half the increase in emissions last year, Marland said. India and China are huge users of coal. Burning coal is the biggest carbon source worldwide and emissions from that jumped nearly 8 percent in 2010.
In 2007, when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued its last large report on global warming, it used different scenarios for carbon dioxide pollution and said the rate of warming would be based on the rate of pollution. The latest figures put global emissions higher than the worst case projections from the climate panel. Those forecast global temperatures rising between 4 and 11 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century with the best estimate at 7.5 degrees.
The developed countries that ratified the 1997 Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gas limiting treaty have reduced their emissions overall since then and have achieved their goals of cutting emissions to about 8 percent below 1990 levels. The U.S. did not ratify the agreement. But this does not imply that only developed countries are responsible for this. Although they hold the major part of this crisis, developing countries like India, China who have the biggest rapidly growing economies in the world too hold the responsibility. Growing economies mean that there would be more and more fuel burning and coal burning. This increases the amount of gases, not only green house gases but gases responsible for the depletion of Ozone layer, Acid rains and photochemical smog.
People and countries all over the world have talked about going greener, cutting the amount of Carbon Dioxide emitted annually but this is not enough. We see reports of big increases in temperature but still people think of war and money. How sensible is that??? Atmosphere is global which means its problems are global too. No matter which country emit more and more green house gases, it affects whole planet. Not only humans but it affects plants and other animals too. It is time we think more of ourselves, our planet and our world rather than the amount of money we are going to earn because even though we are going to earn lots of wealth, there will be no earth or world for us to spent our wealth.
Save Earth…. Save yourself….
