Unbreakable Yet Fragile...... Trust

Reading is such a big habit of mine that cannot even see a simple scrap of paper go in waste without me reading it. As usually I was getting along with the cleaning chores at home, I went through some old books of my grandfather. Among them, I found a tabloid from 1987 which ha many interesting articles with from many other internationally recognized tabloid magazines like reader’s digest. Though it has been 24 years since the publication of these articles, some of their facts still hold true to the present day society. I chose this article on trust and I’m presenting it to you fellas with some editing and my own opinions. As I say, you are warmly invited to comment on.

“I happened to get the chance to sit next to Mr. Martin Luther King once when airborne. There was an Englishman sitting nearby and our on board discussion carried away until we reached to speak on the mutual understandings and new bonding of white man and Negros. The Englishman said, “I’m getting along fine with the new situation and so will my children but my father is not that flexible when it comes to racism.” But Mr. Martin Luther King replied as “Don’t blame your father he believes what he thinks right is to him.” Astonished Englishman replied “Thank you very much sir” with eyes full of deep gratefulness for Mr. Martin Luther King for understanding his father.
Whatever the battles we humans keep up with, they all rely on our beliefs. All our relationships are based on trust as we all very well know. “You have to believe and love the other in order to prosper in your life” So true words by writer E.M. Foster.
Life depends on air and water and also it needs trust. By trusting each other we tend to feel secure because we know that someone is out there that believe in us too. Wife of the General at a certain prison of New York used to visit the prisoners everyday. She took her children with her and let them play with prisoners too. Some were very negative about this and some even blamed her for letting her children play with criminals. But she was not afraid. She used to tell those that “They are not prisoners but friends to me and my children. I feel safe with them because I trust them.”
Unfortunately one day this lady passed away and hearing the sad news all the prisoners gathered at the main gate with sad faces and pain. Seeing this General of the Prison let them out to pay one last tribute to the lady. Prisoners were pouring in all day long at the General’s house doing whatever they could at the funeral house. At the end of the day all the prisoners returned to their cells. They returned the trust that was cast upon them but that lady.
People fear to trust each other. We see people sitting next to at trains, buses and planes facing each other but never return a smile. World will be much easier if we start trusting each other. My friend who is a businessman has only few friends. When he was young his mother passed away and he was adopted by his Aunt who kept saying that his mother went very far. She was sympathetic with him and that’s why she lied to him but when he realized that his mother is never coming home, he knew he was being lied to. He became afraid to trust people ever since.
Before starting off to trust others, you must trust in yourself. Robert Frost once said “What I fear most is a coward.” If you are afraid to trust yourself, you cannot trust others. Trust is very fragile. It is indeed because world is not an innocent place. It is always crowded with liars and hateful people. It is our duty to understand and see through them.
Real meaning of trust is not expecting something back from the person you trust but understanding his real nature. There are no great expectations achieved without great trust. Always keep that in mind.”
