It's Christmas season people and all most everyone is getting ready. So without further ado let's start on our Christmas decorations.
Christmas Paper Stars
You will need
3 (9- by 12-inch) sheets of construction paper
Very hot water
Folded cloth towel
Plate
3-inch star-shaped cookie cutter
Sieve
Glitters of your choice
Rag
Baking sheet
Ribbon loops
Directions
- Tear 3 (9- by 12-inch) sheets of construction paper into small pieces, about the size of a domino, and place them in a blender. Pour in about 1 1/2 cups of very hot water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile put a folded cloth towel on a plate, add a paper towel and top with a 3-inch star-shaped cookie cutter.Heat the oven to 200 degrees. Pulse the blender until the mix is pulpy, about 30 seconds.
- In a sieve set over the sink, drain the pulp, then spoon some into the cookie cutter to the top, taking care to fill the points. Sprinkle with glitter.
- Use a rag to press the pulp down into the cookie cutter until most of the water is gone, then gently push the star out onto a baking sheet. Repeat to make two more stars.
- Bake them for 2 hours or until the moisture has evaporated (they should be firm and lightweight). Let the stars cool, the glue ribbon loops to the backs for hanging.
You will need
Wool sweater (one sweater makes 3 to 5 wreaths)
Needle
Embroidery floss
Red ribbon (ours is 1/4-inch wide)
Fabric glue
Directions
- Wash the sweater in hot water with a cold water rinse, then dry it on high heat. Repeat, if necessary, until the sweater has shrunk and the weave is so tight it can be cut without fraying.
- Cut the sweater into 1 1/2-inch-wide strips, then cut the strips into squares. (We used 60 squares for our 4 1/2-inch-diameter wreath.)
- Thread the needle with the embroidery floss and string on the squares. Pull the floss and squares together tightly to form a circle, and tie off the floss. Make a small bow from the ribbon, glue it to the bottom of the wreath, and loop another piece of ribbon around the top for hanging.
Christmas Baubles
You will need
Different sizes of styrofoam or rigifoam balls
Glitter dust
Binder Glue
Ribbons to hang
Wire to attach Ribbons
Directions
- First take the balls and clean the surface. Pierce the ball from the wire and make a loop from the ribbon 12cm long and attach it to the ball by the wire.
- Then apply binder glue all over the ball by a brush and let it be for 2-3 minutes and ten sprinkle the glitter dust of your choice of colour.
- Dry them out at least 3 hours in sun and clean off the excess dust.
Merry Mice
You will need
Red and green felt
Scissors
Glue
Pom-poms
Candy canes
Googly eyes
Tape
Directions
- Cut a 6-inch-long teardrop-shaped body from red felt. Near the center, cut 2 parallel slits that are 1 inch long and 1/2 inch apart.
- For a pair of ears, cut a 5-inch-long rounded bow-tie shape from green felt. This will be used to make the ears.
- To put the mouse together, fit the ears through the slits in the body. Glue on googly eyes and a pom-pom nose.
- Finally, add a curly tail by slipping a candy cane beneath the mouse and tucking the straight end between the body and the ears to hold it in place.
You will need
White or any colour felt
Needles and threads to sew
Scissors
Poinsettia stamp
Matching colours of fabric paint
Glitter glue sticks
Sheets of paper
Directions
- First cut 2 pieces of the shape of a stocking from the fabric of your choice. Sew around it except at the top.
- Place sheets of paper inside Christmas stocking to keep ink from bleeding through. Stamp 3 poinsettias with fabric paint.
- Then use gold-glitter dimensional fabric paint to write the name at the top.
