Hiya people and once again I'm really really sorry for not posting frequent enough because my precious lappy is not working these days. (thanks to my geniusness!) Anyways, funny I should mention about teeth and smile! I'm having a big toothache these days but not to worry because it's not because of a teeth problem. Anyways it made me realise how important our teeth are, at least to avoid the unbearable pain you'll get once you have a toothache, you should protect yours. Well, basically that's what I'm gonna tell my kids. "Brush your teeth twice a day or you'll suffer in future!"
However, I'm not going to keep writing about brushing your teeth but rather a more deeper aspect. Why on earth do we get these toothaches? What causes those pains? How to avoid a toothache? What are the simple remedies for a toothache? Likewise so keep reading people!
Once I got my toothache, all I could think is how the hell I'm gonna get out of this? So after trying some few remedies my mom told me ( which were okay first but the ache did not disappear fully) I searched the internet for home remedies. Believe me, it was not satisfactory at all. Bearing all that in my mind I tried few of them and few new things but nothing was permanent.
Teeth..... Hardest substance in your body!
Teeth are one of the most significant features of mammals. A tooth consists of several parts. The outer visible layer is called the enamel which is the toughest material found in our body. Below the enamel is dentine. After that comes the pulp which contains blood vessels and nerves. Cementum is at the bottom of your tooth that gets attached to the gum. Okay, now even the hardest substance, enamel can be dissolved and degraded so be warned!
How does tooth decaying start?
Simple! Like everything else. When you eat different food and drink various beverages, their chemical compositions and physical structures starts degrading your teeth. Especially sugary food and drinks fastens these processes. A tiny invisible hole in your tooth is almost harmless until you neglect it and it becomes a visible big cavity. I often remeber how I used to think it was stupid to brush and wash my mouth after eating something sweet. But now I know better. Remeber the sugar in those food specially sweet treats makes your teeth decaying process double fast. But how? As we allprev know, just like the atmosphere we are surrounded by, our mouth contains millions of bacteria. Among them are acid producing bacteria whose activity is triggered in the presence of food that contain glucose, fructose and sucrose. (simply put sugar and sweets) Once they have plenty of sugar to carry on they produce acids that aids tooth decay.
How to prevent tooth decay???
Preventing is always easy if you start working at young age.
- The simple measurement of brushing your teeth twice a day can do miracles. But the brushing has to be done in a perfect manner.
- Atooth brush with a mecial approval is critical because otherwise your gum and tooth enamel can be damaged.
- Then, you should brush all the teeth in your mouth including the ones at very far back. Remember your molars and premolars are very important.
- Brush your teeth at least for five minutes. Don't brush too harshly otherwise you may damage your gum and enamel.
- You can always give a quick wash to your teeth once you eat something sweet. My relatives and I have often skip biscuits becuase they tend to stick to your teeth once you chew them. That can cause so much of problem.
- An occasional salt water gurgle or a mouth wash can do miracles. They usually kill if any harmful germs present.
- Make sure you visit your dentist every six months or so. I know most of the people are very afraid of dentists. But if you want to avoid those late night unbearable pains you better set aside your fear.
- Eating fruits like guava, apples, raw mangoes and other less sweet fruits helps your teeth to get rid of those yellow formations.
What if I get a toothache? What can I do to ease my pain at home?
In my opinion, the best treatment is seeing your dentist. That is the ultimate treatment anyways. But however here are some of the treatments I tried at home and treatments my friends and relatives told me about. I really hope even a single one of them may work on the ones who are suffering from toothaches. But all the same please remember that these may not work on as each and everyone has a different level of pain and different level of toothache problem.
- Steam can help a great deal. Pour some boiling hot water to a bowl and cover your head with a cloth and catch the steam for about four minutes. Make sure your head stays six to seven inches above the level of water as you may damage your eyes. Using lemon leaves in that water or some Vicks can really help as it may release any blockages easing your toothache a bit.
- Placing a warm cloth on the cheek where the bad tooth is can help ease the pain temporarily.
- To a hot water cup, add ten cloves and let it be for five minutes and gargle your mouth from that. It usually works.
- To a mild hot cup of water add three tbsp table salt and wash your mouth from it.
- Place a bit of salt on the bad tooth. Initially this may cause a great deal of pain but as it kills the bacteria in it you'll feel a relief.
- Leaving a generous amount of toothpaste helped me a lot. First I brushed and then left a thin layer of toothpaste. It was really refreshing but did not last much longer.
