Travelling is a very talkative topic to talk about in my opinion. You can never finish visiting all the places in the world and sometimes eventhough we have been to the same place several times we still find it keeps revealing itself each time, isn't it?...
My motherland; Sri Lanka is a top rated travellers' destination with various kinds of travelling experiences. You may already know that it is a small island near the Indian subcontinent in the Indian Ocean. Famously known as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean" and sometimes as Ceylon, Sri Lanka is well known for is Tea. Every bit of my motherland is unique in oneway or another with eye-catching mountain scenaries and warm and golden sandy beaches with lots to explore....
When visiting Sri Lanka, since your arrival at the Bandaranayake International Airport in Katunayake one can witness smiling friendly faces all around waiting to provide service. I must say that my country is also famous for its people with smiling faces and our unique hospitality.
You can select what type of climate you want to enjoy because being an island not only has provided us sandy beaches all around the country but also high lands with plenty of mountains and a mild climate. Apart from the climatic conditions you can decide the places you want to visit within the country depending on what type of activities you intend to do. Either you can rest and produce Vitamin D by simply visiting the most beautiful beaches we have like Nilaweli. Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna etc or you can adventure on the hillsides like Rumassala, Adam’s Peak or Knuckles. And be sure you have time to explore about our rich culture which is few of the main aspects tourists come to Sri Lanka. Kandy is a must visit because of the temple of Tooth Relic and of course, Ambekke Vihara, Gadaladeniya. I’m sure you have heard of Sigiriya, so why not pay a visit there???
Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa in North Central province is the place where Buddhists go most. The Holy tree Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya is there and as well as many other religious places like Ruwanwali maha stupa, Jethawanarama, Mirisawetiya, Lowamahapaya etc. there are many man made tanks and reservoirs too. I’m sure Parakrama samudra tank will definitely surprise you.
Jaffna is a fast developing area now with its resent collaboration with the war. It was a former war zone now open for tourists depicting the harmful effects of war on both parties no matter what the cause was.
Going along the Galle road to Down South you find the developing cities; Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Katharagama. Galle is famous for its Galle fortress built by Dutch and Mathara Polhena beach is ideal for a sea bath. Hambantota has many places to see, to enjoy Sri Lankan culture and experience its humbleness.
14% of Sri Lanka is covered with forests. It has altogether 6 climatic zones and many different ecosystems. We have our largest rain forest cover known as ‘Sinharaja forest’ in Moneragala, Galle and Kegalle districts. Rumassala is an isolated mountain with many herbal plants. One can arrange visitations for sightseeing and bird watching in Bundala, Kumana and Yala. Yala, Udawalawe and Wasgamuwa are national animal sanctuaries. Mangrove eco systems, Lagoons, Estuarine and riverine ecosystems are plenty.
One of the most important stuff you will get to experience is our food. Food plays a unique role in revealing our interests. It is my belief that you will never forget once you get your tongue on Polos ambula, Fish ambul thiyal or even Pol sambol. You have to eat White rice with Pol sambol, Fish curry and jak. Well these are only a bit what you will get to experience when you come to Sri Lanka. I suggest that why not your next dream vacation be Sri Lanka????? You won’t regret I’m sure!
